Vegan Options at Trader Sam's Grog Grotto

Disney recently added a new plant-based vegan option at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in Walt Disney World. We also tried a modifiable option, but is it worth ordering? Let’s find out! Note as of this post, Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace is under refurbishment so Grog Grotto is the only place to order these items. Once Tiki Terrace reopens, these should be available there as well!

Our new option is the Yuca Fries with Plant-based Beef and Asian Slaw. I’ll cut right to the chase. I LOVED this new option. The plant-based beef is fantastic with its teriyaki style sauce. The yuca fries are a nice way to make this a more filling option, because I really could’ve eaten a whole bucket of the beefless tips. The Asian slaw was a bit basic and disappointing, however. If that had more of a punch of flavor it would possibly be dish-perfection.

It’s not a huge serving, but if you want unlimited (all you care to enjoy) of the beefless tips, head to ‘Ohana! It’s part of the plant-based skillet option there (and part of why I have a renewed love for ‘Ohana lately!). See the full guide to vegan options at the Polynesian.

Modified Shrimp Plantain Roll

Next up, the modifiable shrimp and plantain roll. I would not order this again. The plantains were so sweet, it was a clash of the rest of the sushi roll flavor for me. Plus you’re paying $18 for a shrimp roll with no shrimp so not worth the modification in my opinion!

Very pretty to look at, and normally I love plantains, but this just didn’t work for me. You may disagree, but I couldn’t recommend it. Not every modification is worth it. You can watch the video review of these new Trader Sam’s vegan options as well as a visit to Wailulu Bar & Grill!
