Phantom Dumplings Review-Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar Halloween Menu at Disney Springs

We have a third (SpoOooky) iteration of the vegan Impossible meatballs being served at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar in Disney Springs – Phantom Dumplings (meatballs wrapped like ghosts 😈 ). We had hoped the Halloween menu at Jock Lindsey’s would include a vegan option but it wasn’t noted as “plant-based option available” on the menu. Luckily, the Princess and the Bear on youtube ran over to try them asap and discovered there was, in fact, a vegan version. Hooray for us!

As with the other variations (holiday and regular) of the “Mine Cart Meatballs” at Jock Lindsey’s, this item uses the regular, frozen Impossible meatballs. Honestly, I am a-ok with that. I’d rather have them carry a vegan option that they don’t have to worry about not selling or ‘going bad’ before it can be ordered enough, by keeping these in the freezer and grabbing them as needed.

It’s sad that that’s how I view many of the vegan options (as not being ordered) but it doesn’t seem to matter if the items are popular and loved or not great attempts, Disney keeps changing the vegan menu options, so I try not to get too attached anymore. (That said, I do think they come up with some strange combinations that may not be the easiest to prepare or store vs. some easier-but-still-delicious vegan options.)

Simply order the vegan version of the Phantom Dumplings and you’ll be good to go at Jock Lindsey’s, which is open daily from 11:30a – 11:30p. Ours arrived quickly with quite the fanfare of a glass cloche, filled with smoke (I don’t think it was any flavor of smoke, but I could be wrong there). If you are unfamiliar, the rice paper is stretchy and gummy, so our advice is not to try and eat the meatball in one bite (although you’ll want to!). You definitely don’t have to eat the rice paper if that texture isn’t your jam, but where’s the fun in that? It’s not adding anything flavor-wise, but the spooky fun-factor is off the charts.

Luckily, the Impossible meatballs are pan sauteed, so there’s a nice crust on the outside. The real winner here is the teriyaki dipping sauce. It’s definitely house-made and packed with flavor. I’m a big teriyaki fan, so I’d love if they made this the sauce of choice for this vegan meatball option going forward. Bottom line, this is a fantastic option and worth a visit to Jock Lindsey’s during the spooky season (as is their fabulous vintage 1940’s style Halloween decorations which are so fun – you can see more of those on the video below!).
